The last Sunday in ordinary time/Pentecost Season
Whatever time of day, whatever form of media, we hear a similar story: violence, political turmoil, climate change, unrest and natural disaster. The planet and civilization seem to be cracking up. Nearly 2,000 years ago, Jesus predicted as much!
Actually, what Jesus predicted is the persistence of a old news, the story that violence, greed, pride and despair — collectively sin — would win. Jesus warns us against believing that old news, and instead proclaimed a good news, that God has not nor will ever give up on this world.
